Warriors, Mavericks to Slow Things Down
NBA fans are in for a treat as two of the top point guards in the world face off in Thursday’s matchup between Golden State and host Dallas. Steph Curry and the Warriors (11-10 SU, 10-11 ATS) continue to tread water past the season’s 20-game mark and are underdogs Thursday against Luka Doncic and the Mavs (9-13 SU, 10-12 ATS), who prevailed 122-116 in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
Dallas opened the betting cycle at -3.5, its fourth straight game as a favorite. The total opened at 224.5; if it holds, it’ll be the Mavericks’ highest number in the past 11 games.
Golden State News & Notes
Curry continues to carry the bulk of the offensive load for the Warriors, entering Thursday ranked fifth in the NBA in scoring at 28.2 points per game. While Andrew Wiggins isn’t exactly on the level of a Klay Thompson or Kevin Durant, the offseason acquisition has emerged as a reliable secondary option at 17.7 points per game and shot 50.5 percent from the field in January.
The Golden State frontcourt, however, will face a serious test Thursday thanks to the absences of its top two centers. Kevon Looney is dealing with an ankle sprain that is expected to sideline him for the next few games, while rookie James Wiseman is out with a wrist injury. Look for Golden State to rotate Eric Paschall, Draymond Green and Juan Toscano-Anderson at the 5.
Dallas News & Notes
The Mavericks ended a six-game losing streak Wednesday, toppling the Hawks behind a 27-point, 14-assist performance from Doncic. The third-year superstar is enjoying another sensational season with averages of 27.2 points, 9.6 assists and 8.9 rebounds, but he still has work to do from beyond the arc, where he’s shooting an abysmal 29 percent on 6.9 attempts per game.
Like Curry, Doncic has to be pleased at having a capable second scorer to help shoulder the load. Big man Kristaps Porzingis was a difference-maker Wednesday with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the victory over the Hawks, and he should feast on an undermanned and undersized Warriors frontcourt. He’s worth a look in DFS even on the tail end of a back-to-back.
Betting Pick: UNDER 224.5 (-110)
Both teams sport positive UNDER trends over their last five games, and with Dallas having played the night before, you can expect a slower pace than the one the Mavericks saw in the win over Atlanta.
