Golden State News & Notes
The Golden State Warriors are 7-3 in their last ten games, but still find themselves in seventh in the Western conference.
The Warriors are one of the highest-scoring teams in the league averaging 114.7 points per game this year. But that should not be surprising with Steph Curry at the helm. Curry is third in the league averaging 29.9 points per game to go along with 6.3 assists and 5.5 rebounds. If it holds, his 29.9 points per game would be the second highest of his career.
The Warriors also lead the league with 28.1 assists per game and have favorable rebounding and defensive numbers. If there has been an issue with the Warriors this season it is their lack of another top ‘guy’. With Klay Thompson missing this season, Andrew Wiggins has been the number two for Golden State but his 17.5 points per game don’t put give into true number-two status. This team will go as far as Steph takes it.
Los Angeles News & Notes
The Lakers are 2-4 since losing star forward Anthony Davis to injury. Davis, who is out indefinitely, was averaging 22.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3 assists per game before his injury and is about as big a loss a team a could suffer in the league today.
In Davis’ absence, LeBron James has stepped up in a big way. James has averaged 26.5 points per game (higher than his season average) and has had three double-doubles in the six games. The problem is, the Lakers have not been winning games despite LeBron’s bump in production.
The Lakers’ free throw and three-point shooting are big reasons why that winning isn’t happening right now. The Lakers 26th in three-point percentage and 25th in free throws percentage this season.
Betting Pick: Warriors +5
The Warriors may not have that quintessential ‘number two’ star they have had in the past. But neither do the Lakers right now. The last time these teams played. Anthony Davis have 17 points and 17 rebounds. The Lakers are going to need someone to step up and replicate that kind of production to win consistently, and they just don’t have that person right now. We’ll take the Warriors plus the points.
