Banged-Up Clippers Small Faves in Indiana
Los Angeles (37-18 SU, 32-23 ATS) has won five straight despite the absence of several key players. The Clippers will be without Kawhi Leonard and others when they visit the Pacers (25-27, 21-31), who are just 2-9 SU and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 at home.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
With Leonard and others out of the lineup for Los Angeles, oddsmakers opened the Clippers as slim 1.5-point road favorites in this matchup. When the Clips were at full strength in January, they crushed the visiting Pacers 129-96 as 8-point favorites.
Los Angeles News & Notes
After sitting out Sunday’s home game against Detroit to rest, Leonard won’t suit up against the Pacers due to soreness in his right foot. Los Angeles is also without guard Patrick Beverley, who fractured his hand last week, and likely won’t have center Serge Ibaka, who is nursing a back injury.
Having all of those big names on the sidelines might explain why the Clippers struggled against the Pistons on Sunday, although LA eventually pulled away to beat Detroit 131-124 for its fifth straight win. Marcus Morris scored a team-high 33 points and knocked down six three-pointers for the Clippers, with Paul George adding 32.
LA welcomed Rajon Rondo back to the lineup Sunday after the veteran point guard missed the previous game with right adductor soreness. Rondo scored 10 points and added six assists in 20 minutes off the bench and could see a larger role with Beverley out of the lineup.
Indiana News & Notes
The Pacers are on a three-game winning streak for the first time since mid-December, moving the team within 3.5 games of Atlanta for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
The latest victory came Sunday in Memphis as Indiana erupted for 45 first-quarter points, then held on for a 132-125 victory as 3.5-point underdogs. The backcourt duo of Caris LeVert and Malcolm Brogdon combined to score 63 points, with LeVert’s 34 his most in a game since he joined the Pacers earlier this season.
Brogdon added 11 assists and fell one rebound short of a triple-double, while Domantas Sabonis (18 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists) narrowly missed a triple-double of his own. Three other Pacers had at least five assists as Indiana dished out 35 dimes as a team.
The challenge now for the Pacers is to continue their streak when they return to Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana is just 1-10 ATS in its last 11 home games, with that lone cover coming by a half-point against the Timberwolves. In fact, the Pacers’ only SU victories during that span have come over Detroit and Minnesota.
Betting Pick: Clippers -3
Even without Leonard, Beverley and Ibaka, the Clippers should be too much for an Indiana squad that has beaten just one team with a winning record at home since December 27.
