Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Suns opened as 8-point favorites at home with the total set at 218 points. The UNDER is 7-1 in the last eight meetings but 1-5 in Phoenix’s last six games. The Suns have won 15 of their last 16 home games and the Grizzlies are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road contests.

Memphis News & Notes

Memphis won 127-102 over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday to stop a three-game losing streak. Desmond Bane dropped 28 points to lead all scorers while Jaren Jackson Jr. added 21 points in the win.

The Grizzlies have had a solid start to the season at 20-14 nearing the midway mark, but have fallen behind the clear top three in the Western Conference – the Golden State Warriors, the Suns and the Utah Jazz. The addition of Ja Morant, who returned to the lineup on December 20 after missing nearly a month with a knee sprain, should give Memphis a big boost down the stretch.

Yves Pons, De’Anthony Melton, Dillon Brooks, Ziaire Williams and Jarrett Culver (health and safety protocols) are all out for Monday’s matchup. Santi Aldama (calf) is questionable.

Phoenix News & Notes

Phoenix had its five-game win streak cut short on Saturday, falling 116-107 to the Golden State Warriors. The game was tied through three quarters but the Warriors took control in the fourth, outscoring the Suns 32-23. Steph Curry led all scorers with 33 points while Chris Paul topped Phoenix with 21 points.

The Suns have been terrific this season with or without top scorer Devin Booker. The shooting guard missed seven games with a hamstring injury before returning on December 19. He’s averaged 20.8 points per game in four games back while the Suns have gone 3-1 over that span.

Jae Crowder and Elfrid Payton (health and safety protocols) are out while Abdel Nader (knee) is also ruled out for Monday.

How Memphis Will Cover

While Phoenix has looked a clear cut above Memphis of late, the teams aren’t too different statistically – the Suns score about one more point per game while allowing four fewer points against. With the injection of Morant, it stands to reason that the Grizzlies will get a boost at both ends of the court, which could make this game a lot closer than the spread suggests.

How Phoenix Will Cover

The Suns win often and they also win big – five of their last six victories have been by 12 points or more. Crowder just entered health and safety protocols but the team has a nearly perfect bill of health otherwise. With Booker back and everyone else still rolling, Phoenix could turn this into a blowout.
