Morant Scores 35 But Grizzlies Come Up Short
The Grizzlies lost their last game on Tuesday as they fell 105-91 to the Denver Nuggets. Aaron Gordon led Denver with 24 points while Nikola Jokic had yet another triple-double with 13 points, 13 assists and 13 rebounds. Ja Morant was a one-man show for Memphis with 35 points and 10 assists but no one else scored more than 11 for the Grizzlies.
Tuesday’s loss was a rare offensive misstep for the Grizzlies, who rank tied for seventh in points per game (115.4). While Memphis went nearly shot for shot with Denver from the field, the Grizzlies shot a dreadful 5-for-26 from three-point range. Morant himself went 3-for-6 from long range in the loss.
Suns’ Win Streak Snapped vs Wizards
The Suns fell narrowly to the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, losing 113-110 to snap their three-game win streak. Kyle Kuzma (29 points) and Bradley Beal (27 points) led the Wizards while Landry Shamet (31 points) and Deandre Ayton (30 points, 13 rebounds) were the only two Suns to score more than 12 points in the loss.
Phoenix was without Devin Booker for the second straight game as he sat out with a groin injury. Booker, who leads the Suns with 28 points per game, is ruled out for Friday’s contest as well. While the Suns are deep, their second-leading scorer, Ayton, is averaging just 17.6 points per game.
Suns Player Prop: Ayton OVER 23 Points (+112)
With Booker still out, a lot of the offensive burden will fall on the shoulders of the Suns center. Ayton has been hot and cold in December, scoring 20-plus in six games but under 10 points in his other three appearances. He should get plenty of touches on Friday, so look for him to have another big game and hit the OVER.
Grizzlies: Keys To Win
The Grizzlies could be getting a nice boost on Friday as Desmond Bane (toe) is listed as questionable after being sidelined for six weeks. Bane (24.7 points per game) and Morant (27 points per game) make up one of the deadliest duos in the NBA when healthy and would likely overpower the undermanned Suns. Even if Bane doesn’t make his return, Memphis should have enough firepower to outscore Phoenix.
Suns: Keys To Win
The Suns are missing their leading scorer, which means they’ll need everyone to step it up offensively. Outside of Ayton and Shamet, Phoenix looked lackluster in its last game vs Washington. Mikal Bridges, Chris Paul and others will need to get more involved if the Suns are going to defeat the talented Grizzlies.
