For one of the marquee NBA matchups scheduled for Wednesday, October 30, oddsmakers at BetMGM have the visiting San Antonio Spurs as the biggest betting underdog of the night (+12.5) when they take on the undefeated Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center.

Here's a look at all expert picks pertaining to spread, moneyline, total, and player props as the Spurs seek to pull off a sizeable upset and hand Oklahoma City its first loss of the 2024-25 regular season.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Expert Picks

Oklahoma City Thunder ATS -12.5 (-110), ML (-800)

With the exception of maybe the reigning champion Boston Celtics, no team has come out of the gates as fiercely as the Thunder have through three games, possessing a defense which is leaps and bounds ahead of all 29 other teams by allowing just 90.8 points per 100 possessions. To put that number in perspective, the Golden State Warriors currently have the second-best defense at 99.3 points allowed per 100 possessions, with no other team giving up fewer than 103.

None of Oklahoma City's victories have come by fewer than 15 points, which helps explain why the spread is so high against a Spurs team that just split a pair of games against fellow Southwest Division rivals in the Houston Rockets.

When favored by at least 12.5 points at home during the 2023-24 season, the Thunder were a perfect 10-0 with an 8-2 record covering the spread. One of those victories came versus San Antonio on April 10, 127-89, although Victor Wembanyama wasn't active for that meeting. The Spurs did prevail at the Frost Bank Center on Feb. 29 by 14 points, but lost the prior two games by an average margin of 31 points.

I'm taking the Thunder to cover as the monster favorites and anticipating Chet Holmgren (1.3 steals, four blocks per game) to help negate some of the impact Wembanyama may have to aid in what should be a convincing fourth win for the home side.

UNDER 221.5 Total Points (-110)

It was an even 2-2 of OVER and UNDER wagers connecting across the Thunder's 3-1 SU record against San Antonio last season. Oklahoma City was one of the better teams in that department in 2023-24, finishing with a 47-42-3 mark in that market and nailing the OVER 52.8 percent of the time.

The Spurs have gone UNDER in their last two games, and when taking on the elite Thunder defense, it's unlikely to expect a ton of points from their end to help propel the final score beyond what oddsmakers have set at 221.5.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Player Prop

Jalen Williams OVER 19.5 Points (-105)

One of the favorites in the odds race for Most Improved Player honors, even though his shooting efficiency has fallen off a cliff, Jalen Williams still averages respectable numbers in 18.7 points, seven rebounds, and 5.3 assists with a career-best usage rate at 27.4.

The 23-year-old forward has gone OVER 19.5 points in each of his last two games, but did so only once last season against the Spurs. The one time Williams did was when San Antonio won, and with the other three games being blowouts, it's at least understandable that he didn't.

Let's hope his hot streak scoring the rock continues here, although if Oklahoma City blows the door open and leaves the Spurs in the dust, his usage may not be enough to connect on favorable odds.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Trends

  • The Thunder are 32-6 SU (84.2 percent) in their last 38 games at home.
  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has exceeded 28.5 points in seven of his last nine games (31 points/game average).
  • Victor Wembanyama has exceeded 4.5 steals + blocks in eight of his last 10 games on the road (6.6 steals + blocks/game average).
