Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Clippers Expert Picks

Phoenix Suns ATS -5 (-110), ML (-196)

This game marks a rematch for the two teams from Opening Night, with the Suns taking that meeting in overtime by three points on the road, 116-113. It was the second victory in a row for Phoenix over the Clippers after dropping five-straight games dating back to last season.

Los Angeles went 7-8 SU in 2023-24 when playing on no rest, but its roster has undergone a dramatic transformation since that time. It's now relying heavily on the offense of Norman Powell (26 points per game) who was primarily a backup last season, as well as an aging 35-year-old James Harden. The Clippers must now also face a Suns squad that's won two in a row coming off victories over the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers.

Last season when favored by five or more points playing away from the Footprint Center, Phoenix went 8-2 SU but only covered the spread on four occasions. Los Angeles, meanwhile, only had two instances in which it was a betting underdog of five or more points at home, losing both games SU and not covering the spread once.

There's an added sense of familiarity considering they just played each other a little over a week ago, but the Clippers are fatigued this time around after getting stunned by Portland. The Suns' defense has stepped up in their two recent wins, allowing just 106.2 points per 100 possessions (5th), and they'll look to take advantage of a demoralized and tired Los Angeles team and cover the spread. They've done so in three of their last four games versus teams on the second leg of a back to back, as well.

UNDER 222.5 Points (-110)

The OVER/UNDER has reached an UNDER the last five times the Clippers have taken the floor at home as an underdog following a loss in their own backyard.

While the total did go OVER in the opener at 224.5 points with a 229-point total, that was under different circumstances. History would suggest an UNDER is in play here.

Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Clippers Player Prop

Norman Powell OVER 20.5 Points + Assists (-120)

Powell got a ton of grief for his viral quote suggesting Paul George signing with the Philadelphia 76ers would be addition by subtraction, but as we've seen through his play thus far, the 31-year-old guard has taken advantage of the added responsibility and is thriving with the biggest numbers of his career.

He currently sits 15th in the Association in points per game, converting 51.4 percent of his shot attempts and just below 43 percent from behind the arc. While not known for his passing, as Powell is only contributing 1.5 per game, working a combo bet with points and assists does provide enough wiggle room for bettors on Thursday.

Powell has gone OVER 20.5 points and assists in three of his four games after doing so just 13 of a possible 82 times last season, which equates to only 15.9 percent.

Phoenix Suns Vs. Los Angeles Clippers Betting Trends

  • James Harden has failed to exceed 38.5 points + rebounds + assists in 17 of his last 19 games against top-10 defenses for rebounds allowed (29.2 points + rebounds + assists/game average).
  • The Suns are 26-13 SU in their last 39 games as a betting favorite.
  • Ivica Zubac has exceeded 10.5 rebounds in four of his last five games (13 rebounds/game average).
