Commanders vs Jets Odds & Picks Preseason Week 1: Jayden Daniels Debuts

I'm honing in the Commanders vs Jets odds & picks tonight for the Week 1 Preseason contest.

We won't be seeing any Aaron Rodgers for the Jets, but we will get our first taste of rookie QB Jayden Daniels for the Commanders. With Daniels at the helm, I'm backing the OVER and the Commanders (-2.5) to win and cover.

Here are my picks for the Commanders vs Jets preseason Week 1 matchup:

Commanders vs Jets Odds & Picks

Commanders -2.5 (-115)

The Commanders rattled off a perfect 3-0 preseason last year, including handing Baltimore their first preseason loss in six seasons.

But, the big reason I'm backing Washington here is because they aren't holding back the talent. While many teams bench key players in preseason Week 1, coach Dan Quinn has said rookie QB Jayden Daniels will be starting for the Commanders. On the Jets side, Aaron Rodgers and other vets won't see the field.

I also expect we'll see some playing time from rookie Commanders LT Brandon Coleman and receiver Luke McCaffrey. We may also see Marcus Mariota, a veteran QB, get some reps as Daniels' backup. With that talent edge, I expect the Commanders to run away with this one. I'd even take alternate lines up to -6.5 for Washington.

OVER 34.5 Points (-110)

There are a few reasons to be scared of the OVER hitting in this one. In last year's preseason games, the Jets and Commanders combined to hit the UNDER on a 34.5 point line in three of six contests. And, both teams went UNDER in their week 1 contests.

But, I just think this line is kind of wild. The OVER on 34.5 points hit in 12 of 16 Week 1 preseason games last year. Over the last two preseasons, the total in Commanders games has averaged 37.2 points. In Jets games it's been 40.8.

The Commanders also had the worst defense in the NFL last year by yards allowed, so there should be plenty of room for the Jets backups to operate and get this one high-scoring.
