Green Bay Primed to Rebound in Houston
Following a humbling 38-10 loss last week at Tampa Bay, the Packers (4-1 SU, 4-1 ATS) look to rebound with a win over the struggling Texans (1-5, 1-5). Green Bay has covered its last 10 games following an ATS loss and opened as a 3-point road favorite.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
When the Texans are catching points at home, things don’t tend to go very well. Houston has lost nine of its last 11 games as a home underdog, with each of the last five losses coming by double digits.
Green Bay News & Notes
After winning their first four outings by an average of nearly 13 points, the Packers finally hit some turbulence last week in Tampa Bay. Green Bay allowed 38 unanswered points to the Bucs in a 38-10 rout that had coaches and players questioning the team’s work ethic.
“I think we need to take a good look at our practice habits,” said Aaron Rodgers, who was picked twice, sacked four times and hit numerous other times throughout the game.
Rodgers may be under pressure once again this week if David Bakhtiari isn’t able to suit up. The All-Pro left tackle, who has played 48 consecutive regular-season games, left last week’s loss with a chest injury and his status for this week is uncertain.
The good news for the Pack is that they have a stellar history of bouncing back from subpar efforts. Green Bay is a sizzling 10-0 ATS in its last 10 games following a game in which it didn’t cover the spread, and the Packers are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five following a SU loss.
Houston News & Notes
The Texans entered last week’s action with the 31st-ranked run defense and things only got worse against the Titans. Houston allowed Tennessee to rumble for 263 yards on the ground, highlighted by a 94-yard touchdown run by Derrick Henry. Henry finished the day with 212 rushing yards, many of them coming before the hulking back was even contacted by a Houston defender.
Houston also ranks 26th in points allowed and 30th in total yards, forcing the Texans to go through the air a lot more than they might like. Deshaun Watson has thrown for 694 yards and seven touchdowns over the past two weeks, and Will Fuller has become his favorite target. Fuller caught six balls for 123 yards and a touchdown vs the Titans, the fourth straight game in which he’s found the end zone.
Betting Pick: OVER 56
Houston’s defense presents the perfect opportunity for Green Bay’s attack to rebound from last week’s disappointing performance. The Texans’ passing attack can keep them within striking distance throughout, however. Houston has averaged 33 points in its last two outings and hasn’t lost by more than a possession since Week 2.
