In football, the most important position is always the quarterback and that remains the case for Super Bowl 53 with oddsmakers releasing a variety of quarterback-related props in anticipation of the big game.
Online sportsbook Sportsbook has unveiled its betting options specific to signal-callers for Super Bowl 53 (in my best Troy McClure impression), with props such as how many interceptions Tom Brady or Jared Goff will throw or how many yards they’ll rush for, and many more that will be added before kickoff.
Here are my favorite quarterback prop picks for Super Bowl 53:
Tom Brady - OVER 300.5 Passing Yards (-160)
After last year’s Super Bowl vs the Eagles, how can you even consider taking less than 300 passing yards for Tom Brady? Brady broke the Super Bowl passing yards record by tossing 505 yards against an Eagles secondary that hadn’t allowed a 300-yard passer during the entire 2018 postseason. Brady has repeatedly shown up in the big game by averaging 433 yards passing over his last three Super Bowl appearances. This mark seems too low and I’m happy to take advantage.
Tom Brady – OVER 0.5 Interceptions (-125)
With that previous paragraph in mind, that’s why I’m also all-in on this prop because I expect a ton of pressure on Brady and all it takes is a tipped pass for this one to cash in. Brady had 11 interceptions this season, the second-most for him in a season since 2011 and the first time he cracked double digits since 2013.
Over the last three Super Bowls, Brady has thrown three interceptions, and during this postseason, he threw two against the Chiefs in the AFC championship game. I expect the Patriots to get rid of the ball quickly with decisive throws from TB12 but the pressure of Aaron Donald up the middle along with the gambling tendencies of cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib makes me think the 41-year-old will give it to the defense at least once.
Jared Goff – OVER 8.5 rushing yards (-115)
Obviously, the rushing attack for the Rams is led by Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson, but did you know that Jared Goff has double-digit rushing yards in both of the Rams’ playoff games this year? The third-year quarterback rushed for double-digit yards in six of LA’s 16 regular-season games and has shown on key third downs that he has no problem taking off to get a first down.
There’s obviously some volatility to this prop because if the Rams are in a position to win the game, Goff may kneel a couple of times and kill the bet, but I’m on the Patriots to win anyway so I don’t see that happening.
