High-Octane Oilers Look For Third Straight Win
The upstart Oilers have started their season 2-0 and although those wins both came in a home-and-home against the Flames, this Edmonton team led by the unbelievable Connor McDavid looks like one that could definitely sneak into the playoffs – given they keep scoring at a ridiculous rate.
Edmonton has scored six goals a game so far this season and that trend is not likely to stop tonight against a banged-up Sabres team that had four goals scored on them by the anemic offense of the Canadiens in their first and only game so far this year.
Cam Talbot and Robin Lehner are the probable starters tonight for their respective teams and I don’t think many hockey pundits would give the advantage to the Sabres in this duel of No. 1’s.
Talbot may have been 21-27 at home last year but keep in mind, the Oilers finished in the bottom three teams in 2015-16 and Talbot still managed a .917 save percentage. The Oilers gave up 30.2 shots per game last season and I expect that metric to improve with the addition of defensive-minded players like Adam Larsson and Milan Lucic.
The play I’m mainly targeting here is the OVER. Edmonton’s games so far have averaged a total of 9.5 goals a game and we could even start seeing totals of six and 6.5 if this keeps up. Take advantage of the 5.5 totals while they still exist.
