The report below breaks down every NHL team's overall record against the first period OVER and that record at home, on the road, and over their last 10 games. Remember that books set the first-period total at 1.5 goals.
My plan to start the 2024-25 NHL season is to back the Colorado Avalanche to continue hitting the OVER but for the Winnipeg Jets to hit the UNDER less frequently.

Colorado Avalanche First-Period Totals Betting Record
The combination of top-notch goalscoring and poor goalkeeping is why Colorado topped this report in 2023-24 at 54-27-1 (66.7%). The Avs had the third most goals in the first period with 90 and had the fourth-most goals against at 89.
Colorado largely remains the same team on paper for 2024-25 so I'm not going to blink twice about starting the season blindly betting the OVER in the first 20.
Even if Justus Annunen starts as the 1A goalie. The 24-year-old averaged a 2.25GAA and a 0.928SV% in 14 games, but the Avs record vs the first period OVER was still 11-3 (79%).
Winnipeg Jets First-Period Totals Betting Record
Last season, the Jets, backed up by Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck, had the best UNDERs record in the league at 55% (45-37). Unlike Colorado, I'm not about to continue blindly betting on this trend in 2024-25.
Not at the very start of the year at least.
In Hellebuyck's first 10 games of the season in 23-24, the total went OVER 60% with the Jets opponents scoring 56% of the P1 goals. That trend is repeatable over Hellebuyck's last two seasons as well.
In 2022-23 his record vs the OVER in his first 10 starts was 5-5 (50%), he also allowed 50% of the P1 goals. A year earlier in 2021-22, the OVER hit 60% in his first 10 starts with Jets opponents scoring 75% of the goals.
