Hurricanes vs Oilers Preview - October 22

Hurricanes vs Oilers Picks and Odds Tonight: Total Goes OVER 6.5 Goals

The 2-2 Carolina Hurricanes are in the thick of a six-game road trip with the 2-4 Edmonton Oilers on tap tonight. BET99 has made the traveling Hurricanes slight dogs at +110 on the moneyline, but I'm focused on the total of 6.5 goals with the OVER showing some valuable -105 odds.

Over the last four meetings between these teams, they have combined for an average of 8.8 goals per game with a 6-1 Oilers home win being the lowest scoring affair during that span. With a potentially high-scoring game tonight, you might be interested in a Connor McDavid anytime goal at +160 from BET99.

Hurricanes vs Oilers Picks Tonight

OVER 6.5 Goals (-105)

Taking the OVER 6.5 goals here might feel a little strange after Edmonton's slow start, however, burying four goals in back-to-back games last week just shows the offensive prowess last year's No. 4 scoring team has.

Carolina and Edmonton have averaged 6.7 over their last three games respectively and, as mentioned above, these two averaged 8.75 goals in their last four meetings. So much scoring means Andrei Svechnikov's three-game point streak likely gets extended to four; OVER 0.5 points for Svech is -170 at BET99.

Oh, and per Outlier, the OVER has hit in 12 of Edmonton's last 17 games at home for an excellent 71% hit rate.

Oilers home hit rate

Connor McDavid has been exquisite in those four games against Carolina since 2020, with two goals and 10 points for an average of 2.5 points per game. He's even better when playing at home against Carolina with no less than three points in two games. BET99 has OVER 1.5 points for McDavid at +100.

I also like the OVER as neither team is getting solid goaltending. The Hurricanes have the 11th worst team-wide SV% at 0.883 while the Oilers rank 30th at 0.840. Stuart Skinner, who is getting the start for Edmonton tonight, has been particularly poor with a 4.03GAA and 0.851SV%.

All of this comes together to paint a nice picture, a picture that says: "Bet the OVER tonight in Hurricanes vs Oilers".

Hurricanes vs Oilers Player Prop Tonight

Sebastian Aho O0.5 Power Play Points (+265)

Carolina has the ninth-best power play percentage scoring on 25% of their opportunities with Sebastian Aho leading the team in PP production. Meanwhile, the Oilers have been pathetic on the penalty kill with a horrendous 55% efficiency.

With 239:40 of power play time since 2023-24, Aho is the second-most utilized player on the Canes PP, and with 34 points he's their most productive and by a healthy margin too. The next-highest scoring player on Carolina's PP is Seth Jarvis with 21 points.

Edmonton has been short-handed the 11th most in the league this year, combine that with their inability to kill a penalty, and taking Aho to score at least one PP point is easy money.
