Wild on the Verge of a Playoff Berth
Three teams in the Central Division are battling for the final two playoff spots in the Western Conference and with two of those three in action Friday, the picture could be a lot clearer when the final horn sounds. The Minnesota Wild enter Friday’s meeting with the Detroit Red Wings five points up on the Colorado Avalanche for the final spot and will be gunning for a win to tighten their grip on the final ticket.
The Wild had a six-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators Thursday night. They have an outside chance of nabbing the seven-seed from the Nashville Predators as they sit four back with four games left, but the No. 8 seems more likely.
The Red Wings are in a fight themselves as they sit one point back of the Boston Bruins for third place in the Atlantic Division. Grabbing that No. 3 spot in the Atlantic will be Detroit’s best bet to get into the postseason. From the way things are going, the two wild card spots could very well come out of the Metropolitan Division as they New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers are in the driver’s seat.
