Best Road Team in the League Pegged as Dogs in New York Tonight
The Sharks have started their season 2-0-0 after losing in the Stanley Cup final and look like the legit contenders I hoped they’d be. Pete DeBoer has struggled in his second season with every team he’s ever coached, so a successful year No. 2 with San Jose will go a long way to changing his legacy. DeBoer and the Fish will look to stay perfect this evening when they head to Madison Square Garden to take on the 1-1-0 New York Rangers.
Martin Jones and Antti Raanta will get the starts for their respective teams tonight as King Henrik gets the night off after two consecutive rough starts. Raanta went 11-6-2 with a .919 save percentage in 24 appearances with the Rangers last year but does not move the needle significantly in favor of New York tonight.
Jones has been stellar for the Sharks as he’s stopped 47 of the 50 shots he’s faced so far this season. The former Kings backup had incredible numbers on the road last year as he went 22-7-3 with a 2.20 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in games played away from the Shark Tank.
The Sharks are a slight underdog in this one, which is a little confusing to me. San Jose had the best road record in the NHL last year and I’m pretty sure the Rangers are bad – the puckline is too chalky for San Jose tonight but the moneyline is perfect value.
