Sharks Have had Trouble With Pesky Senators the Last Few Seasons
The Sharks squeaked out a couple of points in Toronto last night and will look to make it a season sweep of Ontario when they match up with the Ottawa Senators four hours east of the Big Smoke tonight. The Sens have been a bit of a roadblock for the Sharks, who haven’t been able to beat Ottawa since 2013 – a run of five straight games.
These teams last met a week ago south of the border and the Senators stormed to a 4-2 upset as +170 underdogs. Mike Condon started in net for the Sens and stopped 35 of the Sharks’ 37 shots. It’s looking like that performance may have worn the 26-year-old netminder out a little as he followed it up with consecutive stinkers against the Kings and Ducks in which he stopped just 25 of the 32 combined shots he faced.
Condon will get the call again tonight and that gives me a new hope for the Sharks. Casual Star Wars references aside, the former Canadiens backup has not proven he can succeed with a starter’s workload as he posted just a .903 save percentage in 51 starts for the Habs last year in the wake of the Carey Price injury.
If his last two performances are any indication, the Senators are a fade whenever Condon starts from here on out.
