Ducks Host Caps in Heavyweight Battle
The hottest team in the NHL squares off with the best team as the Anaheim Ducks try to extend their winning streak to 12 games when they visit the Washington Capitals Monday evening.
The Ducks’ 11th win, a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, was probably their biggest of the streak. The triumph put them tops in the Pacific Division with 82 points – two ahead of Kings.
Five of those 11 wins have come on home ice and they have outscored opponents 12-7 in those home wins. Furthermore, they have been lights out versus opponents from within the Pacific, taking a 17-4-4 record into Monday’s contest. They also have an 11-game winning streak versus teams from within the division as well, just to throw yet another dominant stat in there.
The Capitals have been the best team in the league for the entirety of the season and have gone 8-3 SU in their last 11 games. They skated to a 2-1 overtime victory against the Boston Bruins in their last contest Saturday.
It is not known who will get the start in the crease Monday, but all signs point to Braden Holtby for the Caps and John Gibson for the Ducks.
Whatever happens, this could very well be a Stanley Cup preview as the Ducks have been the best team since Christmas and are unbeatable at the moment. This could give us a better look at where these two stand with the playoffs not far off.
