World Cup Group B: England Basically On To Round of 16
With a 6-2 thrashing of Iran, England made its statement to open the World Cup. There was some doubt around the Three Lions, as usual, and boy did they let all the doubters have it.
England was already the favorite to win the group. Gareth Southgate’s men were -260 favorites to top Group B while the rest of the competition was all plus money to lead the group. Now the English are -900 to win, representing implied odds of 90 percent after the big victory.
It’s all the oddsmakers needed to see to simply hand England the group and focus on the Round of 16.

World Cup group b: down to USA & Wales
We knew the second qualification spot in the group would come down to either the USA or Wales. Looking back at the Sportsbook odds, the USA was at -105 while Wales was at +115. Iran was at +350.
The first game between the two didn’t do anything to change the narrative. Wales overcame a pathetic first half when they had a minuscule 33 percent possession rate. In the second half, they held 49 percent of the possession and eventually scored the game-tying goal.
A point to each in the group standings does nothing to change who comes out of this group between the two.
World Cup Group B: Sorry, Iran
Iran was supposed to bottom out of this group and it certainly looks like they will. At +450, though, there’s still a chance the Iranians power their way to consideration with strong games against the USA and Wales.
That’s what they’ll need – wins against Wales and the USA. And that’s unlikely. They enter the contest against Wales as the underdog at +265, with Wales favored at +120. Against the USA, they’re the heavy underdogs at +340. Their implied odds are 27.40 percent and 22.73 percent, respectively.
The group stage is where this ends for Iran.
