Believe me, this was a tough bracket to complete with a potential UConn vs USC meeting in the Elite Eight and a my Final Four stacked with UConn, UCLA, South Carolina and Notre Dame—feeling impossible to choose between.

For the first couple of rounds, my bracket is pretty smooth. Well... there is the exception of No. 15 Vermont defeating No. 2 NC State. It's a bold prediction considering No. 2 seeds are 120-0 SU vs No. 15 seeds in Women's March Madness history. But, Vermont has a top five scoring defense (52.2 PPG) that I think could slow the Wolfpack if Catamounts play their cards right. What's Round 1 of March Madness without a crowd stirring upset?

My regional winner predictions also stick to the script with UCLA, UConn and South Carolina favored to come out on top. My single plus-money pick is taking Notre Dame (+250) over Texas (-105). Had the Fighting Irish not lost three of their final five regular season games, they wouldn't have dropped to the No. 3 seed. Regardless Hannah Hidalgo, averaging the fourth-best point average in the nation (24.2), and Olivia Miles can do some damage together in the NCAA Tournament.
I also just really like Notre Dame's route to the Final Four, with worst case scenario being to meet No. 2 TCU in the Sweet 16 (something I predict won't happen). However, with wins over USC, Texas and UConn, the Irish can keep up and tear down the big girls.
The Irish's biggest concern is the inconsistent defense, which has allowed 60 points or fewer in 13 outings while also coughing up 65 points or more in nine games, too. But, if we know that then surely Niele Ivey does, too. I expect that to be the focal point in plenty of their practices the last few weeks leading up to the Big Dance.

And look, it wasn't a conclusion I came too easily with Dawn Staley's Gamecocks, UCLA as the Big Ten Champs and a strong Notre Dame resume in my Final Four predictions.
But, the Huskies bench is an ideal blend of experienced veterans and eager freshman. Not to mention the benefit of being led by Geno Auriemma, a Hall of Fame coach. To pair with a seasoned Bueckers is sharpshooter Azzi Fudd, who has recorded a 43.4 3PT% this season, and youngling Sarah Strong's noble 8.4 rebounds and 16 points per game average.
With an average margin of victory +26.3 points, their recent performance in the Big East Tournament proves these ladies are dialed in.
