It was an offseason of massive change for the Astros.
Kyle Tucker, Justin Verlander, and Ryan Pressly are gone. But some big new faces have come in. With the dust finally settled, it certainly looks like we're set for another season of predictable success from an Astros team that's made the playoffs in each of the last eight years.
In this 2025 Houston Astros season preview, I'll break down their latest odds, key projections, and the best bets for their upcoming campaign.
2025 Astros Odds: Division, NL Pennant, World Series
World Series Odds | AL Pennant Odds | AL West Odds |
---|---|---|
+1800 | +800 | +180 |
Odds as of March 14th from Sportsbook
The Astros have been to four of the last eight World Series (winning twice). In the last decade, they've been one of the smartest futures bets in baseball. But it does look like they're trending in the wrong direction. We've lost a lot of talent off that 2022 title team and the 2024 Astros were the first version of the franchise to not win a single playoff game since 2016.
However, there's still World Series upside here. A lineup featuring Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez can bang with the best of them. The rotation is strong. And the AL West is still wide open for the taking. I'm not sure I'm betting on Houston at seventh in World Series odds, though.
2025 Astros Win Total Odds
2025 Win Total | OVER | UNDER |
---|---|---|
86.5 | -104 | -118 |
Odds as of March 14th from Sportsbook
The Astros haven't won fewer than 88 games since 2016. I know they came close last year after a slow start, but I think the second half showed us what this Houston squad is still built to do. The losses of Tucker and Pressly may scare you a bit, but I honestly think this team will be just as good after bringing in Christian Walker, Isaac Paredes, and more. It may not be the 95-win Astros we're used to, but this is still a comfortable O86.5 bet for me.
2025 Astros Playoff Odds
To Make Playoffs | To Miss Playoffs |
---|---|
-152 | +122 |
Odds as of March 14th
The 2025 American League is wide open. There aren't many postseason locks, especially after the Yankees' spring injuries. I think there's a better chance the Astros are the best team in the AL than miss the playoffs. With a deep lineup and healthy pitching, this squad is as sure of a thing as we got to make the postseason in this year's American League.
2025 Astros: AL MVP Odds, AL Cy Young Odds
MVP Candidate | Odds |
---|---|
Yordan Alvarez | +1600 |
Jose Altuve | +10000 |
Odds as of March 14th from Sportsbook
Cy Young Candidate | Odds |
---|---|
Hunter Brown | +2200 |
Framber Valdez | +2200 |
Odds as of March 14th from Sportsbook
I don't really love any of Houston's AL MVP options — Altuve is on the wrong side of his career and Alvarez just doesn't bring the playing time or defensive value needed to win the award.
The Cy Young options — specifically Valdez — are where my eye goes. Valdez missed a few starts last year, but finished 2024 with a 2.91 ERA and his third-straight top-10 Cy Young finish. It's what he did in the second half that has me really excited though. In his final 12 starts of 2024, Valdez posted a 1.96 ERA, 10 strikeouts per nine innings, and a 3.78 K:BB ratio. If he carries anything close to that into 2025, Valdez will be a serious Cy candidate.
