Starting Pitchers

Gerrit Cole (5-1) will look to bounce back from his worst start of the season. The right-hander lasted just 2.1 innings against the Minnesota Twins on June 9, surrendering eight hits, five homers and seven earned runs in a no-decision as the Yankees’ bats bailed him out of the loss. Cole has a 3.63 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP through 67 innings of work this season.

Corey Kluber (3-2) gets the call for the Rays in his 12th start of the year. Kluber picked up his second straight win on June 8, allowing six hits and three earned runs over five innings against the St. Louis Cardinals. He has a 3.88 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP in 55.2 innings.

Pitching Steals The Show Again For Tampa Bay

The Rays took two of three games off the Twins, capping the series with a 6-0 win on Sunday. Kevin Kiermaier led the offense with two hits and two RBIs while starter Jeffrey Springs gave up just two hits and fanned five over 5.1 innings of work.

Sunday’s shutout win was just another example of how good Tampa Bay’s pitching has been this season. The Rays rank fourth in the majors in both total earned runs allowed (195) and ERA (3.26). While the team has been mediocre offensively at just 4.25 runs per game (20th), excellent pitching has allowed Tampa Bay to stay in the hunt for the first wild-card spot in the American League.

Yankees Blow Out Cubs To Complete Sweep

The Yankees finished off a sweep of the Chicago Cubs on Sunday in emphatic fashion, winning 18-4. Matt Carpenter had a monster night with two home runs and a career-high seven RBIs while Giancarlo Stanton and Isiah Kiner-Falefa added two hits and three RBIs each. Jameson Taillon improved to 7-1 after scattering seven hits and three earned runs over five innings.

New York has looked nearly unstoppable this season, powered by the best pitching in the majors (2.85 ERA) and a top-two offense (5.12 runs per game). The Yankees’ top trio of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo are all heating up with Judge collecting seven hits, two home runs and three RBIs in his last four games to lead the charge.

Rays vs Yankees Pick & Insights

Rays: Keys To Victory

Tampa Bay will need to find a way to contain New York’s scorching-hot bats while also getting a few runs off Cole. Given how shaky Cole was in his last outing, that objective may be the easier of the two to accomplish.

Yankees: Keys To Victory

The Yankees can beat you in so many ways and they flexed all of their muscles over their three-game sweep of the Cubs, winning 2-1, 8-0 and finally 18-4. New York boasts three batters with 40-plus RBIs, while its starting rotation and bullpen have been stellar. Whether it’s a high- or low-scoring affair, the Yankees always seem to have the edge.
