The Seattle Seahawks enter the 2024 season with a bit of mystery after the departure of longtime head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll, who was known as a players coach, vacated the sideline and Seattle replaced him one of the most respected minds in the NFL -- Mike Macdonald.
Some coaches who thrive as coordinators can't make the transition to head coach (Norv Turner, Steven Spagnolo) and it remains to be seen if MacDonald makes that list. However, the table is set for MacDonald to have an immediate impact and help Seattle return to the playoffs.

As you read below, you'll see that I'm a lot more bullish on the Seahawks than many others in the sports betting space. However, even for me, the idea of Seattle reaching the Super Bowl, NFC Championship game or winning the NFC West seems unrealistic.
I think the ceiling for this Seattle team is a wild card berth and one win in the playoffs. For that reason, I can't get on board with any of the odds above.

Seattle has some soft spots on the schedule against the Broncos (Week 1), Giants (Week 5), Cardinals (Weeks 12 & 14), and Vikings (Week 16). Reaching 8 wins is very realistic for the Seahawks, but it's a little but of a bummer to see the season win total juiced up to -170.
Seattle's over 8.5 win number is +116 and I prefer that value compared to the over on the standard 7.5 line.

The NFC is a lot more wide open than the AFC and I think Seattle has a solid chance to make the playoffs with a middle-of-the-road schedule difficulty.
I'm a lot higher on the Seahawks than a lot of other experts and I like the +156 value here. Last season the Seahawks offense was good and their main issue was their defense. With the addition of defensive guru Mike Macdonald, he's expected to make lemons out of lemonade and I'm fully buying that narrative.
Macdonald is the best defensive mind in the NFL not named Spagnolo. With even an average defense and the same caliber offense Seattle should be in the playoff mix.

Mike Macdonald has the pedigree and the circumstances to win this award in 2024. As I wrote about in our NFL BETS & LONGSHOT FUTURES article, the stars seem to be aligning for Macdonald. The fact that Seattle didn’t make the playoffs in 2023 works in his favor because voters will see a potential Seattle playoff berth as a turnaround story. Macdonald being a first-year coach also helps as evidenced by former winners Sean McVay (2017), Matt Nagy (2018), Kevin Stefanski (2020), and Brian Daboll (2022).
