49ers vs Vikings Odds & Picks Week 2: 49ers to win in Minnesota

The San Francisco 49ers visit the Minnesota Vikings as -5.5 point favorites in a Week 2 matchup of 1-0 teams. The total in this game is set at 45.5 after both teams looked capable on offense in Week 1. The Vikings disposed of the Giants 28-6 in Week 1, but the defending Super Bowl champion 49ers put hangover concerns to rest Monday night with an impressive 32-19 win over the Jets.

This will be a revenge game for Vikings starting QB Sam Darnold who was a backup in San Francisco last season.

49ers vs. Vikings Picks Week 2

49ers Moneyline (-260)

The moneyline feels a lot safer to me than laying points with the 49ers, but if you disagree and want to grab the -5.5, I’d do it now because that number is likely to rise after Monday Night Football.

The lookahead line for this game was -7, but it dipped down to +4.5 right before the 49ers played partially because of Christian McCaffrey's injury concerns and partially because the Vikings looked good in Week 1. The 49ers' impressive win had this number popping back to -5.5 and some Minnesota +6s are available in the market too.

Despite Christian McCaffrey being out, San Francisco absolutely dominated the Jets Monday night and while it remains to be seen if CMC plays Week 2, the tea leaves are suggesting he will sit. Jordan Mason’s impressive 147-yard performance vs. the Jets and the fact that the Vikings play on turf that could aggravate his injury, suggest Mason will be the lead back in Week 2.

Mason is a hard-nosed runner whose violent running style is akin to Marshawn Lynch’s. The Vikings had success stopping the run vs. the Giants, but they deployed 5-foot-7, 203-pound Devin Singletary at running back and he’s more of a finesse runner.

I think Mason will once again shine in a win vs. the Vikings, but this isn’t a great situational spot for the 49ers. San Francisco is flying to the central time zone on short rest and facing a team in its home opener. Vikings fans will be fired up after their Week 1 win and Minnesota has been a tough place to play for the 49ers. Don’t forget, last season the 49ers were -7 point favorites in Minnesota Week 7 and lost 22-17 in a game where Brock Purdy threw one touchdown and two interceptions. Back in 2018, Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers were 6-point dogs in Week 1 and failed to cover the spread as Minnesota won 24-16 in a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated.

If you like to bet teasers and have another leg you like as a dance partner, this game also presents a viable teaser leg for the 49ers.

49ers Vs Vikings Prop Pick

Ty Chandler U9.5 Longest Rush

Vikings backup RB running back Ty Chandler hasn't had a run 10+ yards in three of his last four games including last week's game against the Giants when his longest run was 6 yards. The 49ers defense is a lot better than the Giants and they did a good job of bottling up Breece Hall last week.

Fred Warner is manning the second level of the 49ers' defense and he'll be a heat seeking missile to any holes crated by the Vikings offensive live.
