Patriots vs Jets Picks Week 3
New York Jets -6.5
Aaron Rodgers will play in the Jets home opener as they kickoff against the hated Patriots on Thursday Night Football. For once in their storied rivalry, the Jets will field a much better team, and a superstar quarterback.
While he's not moving as well as he once did, Rodgers is still slinging the football with his trademark uncanny accuracy. Plus, he's surrounded by playmakers like Breece Hall, Braelon Allen and Garrett Wilson who are making Uncle A-Rod's life easy. No. 8 tossed for just 176 yards and two touchdowns to take the win and cover the spread against the Titans in Week 2. But, he didn't have to do much more. For perhaps the first time in his career, Rodgers doesn't need to be the star of the show for his team to win. That gives the Jets a major advantage in this contest.
New England has arguably already out-performed pre-season expectations. However, the cracks in the Patriots armor began to show last week, as Geno Smith and his merry band of receivers lit up Mayo's secondary. D.K. Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba left Pats defenders in the dust all over the field, and I'm betting Wilson and company can do the same on Thursday Night.
After a putrid 20 years where the Patriots dynasty dominated, there's no NFL betting trend that is in the Jet favor. That being said, I think sportsbooks are overrating New England after a strong first two weeks. Remember, they were only given a win total of 4.5 before the season began. To me, Week 3 is where the wheels begin to fall off.
Patriots vs Jets Prop Pick
Rhamondre Stevenson UNDER 67.5 Rushing Yards -113
I'm all over Rhamondre Stevenson's UNDERs this week.
I like the idea of fading the former Oklahoma star after his strong start to the season. The Jets defensive line is one of the best units in the NFL, and has more than enough beef to shut down the Patriots one-dimension offensive attack.
