The Tampa Bay Buccaneers opened up as a 7.5-point home favorite at FanDuel over the Las Vegas Raiders in a Week 14 contest. The Over/Under total opened at 45.5. We lost the hook and the line ticked down to a flat -7, and the total also moved up and is now 46.5.
We do have some distant history for this matchup but you have to scroll back to the 2020 season. The Bucs (-5) came out to Vegas and SMOKED the Raiders 45-20. The Over/Under was listed at 52.5 and went WAY high. Two things to remember in that game. Tom Brady was at QB for Tampa Bay and the Bucs went on to win the Super Bowl against the Chiefs.
Looking ahead, the Raiders fly back home to host the Falcons on the fabulous Las Vegas Strip, while the Bucs fly out West for a tussle against the Los Angeles Chargers.

'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' was a phenomenal 1966 epic spaghetti Western starring the great Clint Eastwood. You could use the same adjectives for Baker Mayfield's 2024 season. The Baker opened with two wins, the good, then went lose/win/lose/win, the bad, then stumbled into an 0-4 losing streak, the ugly.
However, Baker is starting to heat up again with wins over the New York Giants (30-7) and the Panthers (26-23). And those last two games have been a microcosm of Mayfield's season. Against the Giants, Baker was 24 of 30 (80%) for 294 yards with no TDs, no INTs and no sacks. That was the good, really good. Against the Panthers, he was 21 of 33 (63.%) for 235 yards with one TD, two INTs and FOUR sacks. That was kinda bad.
One of the keys in the last two games for the Bucs has been the emergence of the talented rookie RB from Oregon, Bucky Irving. In the first 10 games, Irving was getting between seven and 10 carries, and running for 20-70 yards. The last two, Bucky has exploded. He had 12 caries against the Giants for 88 yards and last week, BANG/BOOM, 25 carries for 152 yards. With Irving slicing and dicing, Baker will have more options and less stress.
Turning to the Raiders and their EIGHT game losing streak, believe it or not, there are a few bright spots. One is the passion the team brings to the field every week. Kudos for head coach Antonio Pierce for keeping the boys ready, willing and able. They took on the BEST team in the AFC, the Chiefs, and came up only two points short. Aiden O'Connell stepped in at QB for the first time since October 27 when he fractured his thumb in a game against the Rams. For someone that had not been on the field in almost six weeks, O'Connell acquitted himself very well. He hit on 23 of 35 passes (65.7%) for 340 yards, with two TDs and 0 INTs. And that was against a Kaycee defense that is ranked No. 9 in the NFL. Any guesses where Tampa's D is ranked? How about 29th!
The other YUGE advantage that the Raiders have is a MONSTER at tight end. Rookie Brock Bowers is having an INSANE season. And if it wasn't for Washington QB Jayden Daniels and Denver QB Bo Nix, Bowers would be the top dog. Last week, Double B had 10 grabs for 140 yards and on the year, has 84 receptions for 884 yards. The rookie record for a tight end is 86 catches, which Bowers will have before the first quarter ends on Sunday. The rookie record for most receiving yards is 1,076 yards set back in 1961 by Mike Ditka. Brock is averaging 73 yards per game, and if he stays healthy, should surpass Ditka against the Cowboys or Panthers.
Gimme a taste of the Silver & Black. But just put me down for a thimble.
