Ravens vs Browns Odds & Picks Week 8: Can Jameis Save Browns?

With a new quarterback and a 1-6 record, the Browns are massive underdogs in this AFC North battle against the Ravens. Cleveland sits as a 10.5-point dog at home (at FanDuel) against a Ravens team that's won five-straight games.

I think the sportsbooks are a bit too down on Cleveland, though, so I'll be backing the underdogs in these Ravens vs Browns Week 8 odds:

Ravens vs Browns Picks Week 8

Browns +10.5

Am I crazy to think that Deshaun Watson's injury was a good thing for the Browns?

Aside from being a PR nightmare, Watson was averaging just 164 passing yards per game with five touchdowns in seven starts. He was, objectively, one of the worst QBs in football.

It's hard to imagine Dorian Thompson-Robinson or Jameis Winston being much worse than Deshaun. Jameis is actually 6-4 in his last 10 games as a starter while DTR is 1-2 in his career. The Browns played to a 14-14 tie against the Bengals after Watson left the game with an injury last week.

Also, the Ravens are really good (maybe the best team in football?), but 10.5 points on the road is still a lot to cover. The Ravens have won by more than 10.5 just once in this five-game win streak, winning by an average of 9.6 points.

Ravens vs Browns Prop Pick

David Njoku OVER 5.5 Receptions (-120)

David Njoku became a big part of Cleveland's passing attack last week. With Amari Cooper traded to Buffalo, Njoku became Cleveland's top passing weapon, seeing 14 targets (10 receptions) against the Bengals. It also seemed liked Deshaun Watson's injury benefitted Njoku, as the tight end saw nine of his 14 targets after the QB1 left the game.

Njoku should be able to keep things going against a Ravens defense that gives up passes to tight ends. The Ravens have allowed the most receptions in football to tight ends this season (6.4 per game) and the most yards to the position.

Ravens vs Browns News

The big news story to watch in this one is which QB the Browns will go with in Week 8. With Watson out, Cleveland has both Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Jameis Winston as backup options. Winston is more established, but DTR was the QB2 last week against the Bengals. DTR is also dealing with a finger injury to his throwing hand, but X-rays came back negative meaning he has no broken bones.
