It's a busy night on the NHL calendar, with 24 teams set to skate Thursday night which means plenty of anytime goal scorer props to look at and choose from. While there are many games, my eyes were drawn to one matchup in particular with the Montreal Canadiens heading to the Prudential Center to take on the New Jersey Devils
Two of the leading scorers thus far in the NHL season, Habs forward Cole Caufield and Devils forward Nico Hischier both have 10 goals and are meeting for the first time this season. BET99 has Caufield at +135 to score a goal and Hischier at +150, both bets I'm a fan of. If you're really bullish, you can parlay the two at +475.
Team | Moneyline | Puckline | Totals |
---|---|---|---|
Montreal Canadiens | +255 | +1.5 (+100) | O6.5 (-110) |
New Jersey Devils | -325 | -1.5 (-120) | U6.5 (-110) |
Odds as of Nov. 7 at BET99, see our full Canadiens vs Devils matchup page.
Cole Caufield Anytime Goal Score (+135)
There were whispers over the last couple of years that this kid playing in Montreal is going to pot 50 in a season, however "Goal" Caufield hasn't quite reached that point, with a career-high 28 in 2023-24. Well, Mr. Caufield is well on pace thus far, burying 10 in 13 games (a 63 goal pace).
Caufield has scored in eight of 13 games as well, not just filling the scoresheet in a few games, but rather consistently one-goal games which is perfect for an anytime goal scorer bet -- we don't like volatility. The 23 year old has failed to touch the twine over his last two games, but earlier in the year when he failed to score in two straight, he came out with a two-goal performance at the Islanders.
Against the Devils, Caufield has two goals in seven games, not great, but seven points in seven games so perhaps OVER 0.5 points (-155 at BET99) is a safer play. I mentioned that he scored AT the Islanders on Oct. 19, in fact, Caufield has scored in four of his last five road games (all this season) according to Outlier.
Nico Hischier Anytime Goal Score (+150)
Nico Hischier has also had Devils fans waiting for him to be more of a goal-scoring machine, often receiving a lot of praise for his two-way abilities. That said, when you're a No. 1 overall pick, there are expectations to fill the net, of which he has done early and often this year with 10 goals in 15 games (55 goal pace).
Having been in the league for almost 500 games so far, you forget that the Devils captain is still just 25-years-old and perhaps this is finally his offensive breakout year. Hischier has been quite strong against the Habs in his career, notching nine goals in 17 games (the second-most goals he has against any team in the NHL) and more recently, three in his last four against them.
According to Outlier, Hischier has scored in four of his last five home games, including two in a row.
