MLB Expert Picks Today: One Last Underdog Bet

I've got two MLB expert picks for this Friday slate!

I'm finishing off the week (and basically the regular season) with a runline selection of the Philadelphia Phillies and one last underdog bet. I'm taking the Los Angeles Angels at +144 on the moneyline to beat the reigning champs.

Here are my two MLB picks for September 27th:

MLB Expert Pick Today: Phillies -1.5 (-110) vs Nationals

Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals Odds -- Game Time 6:46 p.m. ET

The Nationals are in shambles. Washington has lost nine of its last 10 games, failing to cover the -1.5 runline in six of those nine losses, too.

Now they face a serious pitching mismatch with Ranger Suarez vs. Trevor Williams. Suarez, for Philly, has a 3.98 ERA in his last four starts, and has been one of MLB's most profitable pitchers this season. If you bet on Philly during every Suarez start, you'd be up 2.50 units.

Poor Williams has been hit around by Phillies in the past. The righty has allowed a .288 average and .963 OPS to active Philly batters. Earlier this year, Williams allowed three runs in 4.1 innings to the Phillies in a 11-5 Philly win.

MLB Expert Pick Today: Angels ML (+144) vs Rangers

Texas Rangers vs Los Angeles Angels Odds - Game Time: 9:40 pm ET

The Angels may have just gotten swept by the White Sox (yuck), but I smell an L.A. upset tonight. The Rangers are on their own cold streak, losing five of their last seven games.

But the real key here is Reid Detmers on the mound. Even as Detmers struggles against the rest of the league, he's always found success against the Rangers. The LA lefty holds current Texas bats to a .213 average and .636 OPS. 20.1 innings, allowing just two runs. The Angels won two of the three outings.

Another thing to note here, the Rangers have lost their last four games as favorites. So with the Angels sitting as heavy dogs tonight, I'll take a shot.
