Mariners vs Rangers Betting Preview

2025 Rangers Season Preview & Odds: Seager MVP? deGrom Cy Young?

Nearly two years after their first World Series victory, the Rangers are in a weird spot.

Texas' offense took a big step back in 2024, plus its pitching staff succumbed to injuries, leading to a disappointing 78-84 finish. The Rangers were third in the AL West and missed the postseason in a very winnable year.

The Rangers added Joc Pederson to the order, and a full season of Jacob deGrom will help, but MLB pundits suggest Texas may still not have what it takes to crack the postseason.

In this 2025 Rangers season preview, I’ll explore the latest odds, highlight key projections, and uncover the best bets for the team this year.

I'll be fading the Rangers in each of these markets for 2025. Not only do I see them as a poor pick to win the AL West, but I also don't see this squad making the postseason this year (more on that later). Pederson won't fix the holes on offense, and the early injury mill suggests Adolis Garcia could have a serious oblique injury.

deGrom is a hell of a pitcher, but he also hasn't thrown over 100 innings in a season since 2019.

I'll go UNDER again here. Last season, Texas played below-.500 baseball from May onward. The club suffered injuries and the offense never came to life. An 86-win season would actually be out of the ordinary for this Rangers franchise, which has gone UNDER 86 wins in six of the last seven campaigns (excluding the shortened COVID year).

Texas won 90 games and rallied to win the World Series in 2023. That was the outlier. I doubt the Rangers sniff 90 games in 2025.

This is a very easy miss bet for me. When you bet MLB, you must prioritize depth, especially on the pitching end. deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Gray, and Tyler Mahle all have long injury histories, and, as I said earlier, I don't believe this offense improved enough to carry the Rangers to October.

Seager is one of the best left-handed hitters in baseball, so I like him at +1000, but he just hasn't been healthy enough to win his first career MVP award. He came close with just 119 games played in 2023, but he went insane that year (1.013 OPS, 6.9 WAR). Seager produced 5.0 WAR in 2024 in just 123 games but his OPS lagged to .864, which isn't close to MVP level. He needs at least a low .900s OPS to pull this off in a league dominated by Aaron Judge. He's a fine bet at +1000, though I suspect you're better off fishing for some steeper value.

On deGrom, there's just no way he stays healthy. I'd bet him at like +2500, minimum. At +1000, no way.
