Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies Expert Picks

Houston Rockets ATS +5 (-110), Memphis Grizzlies ML (-184)

Thursday marks the fourth and final meeting between Houston and Memphis during the regular season, with the Rockets having gone a perfect 3-0 thus far with the last two games being separated by four or fewer points. On that alone, it would be logical to assume the visitors are in line to pull off the clean sweep, especially considering how they're in the midst of a four-game winning streak with seven wins in their last nine games and 10 in their last 12. However, it's important to look into the finer details which could swing this game in the Grizzlies' favor.

Facing Memphis will serve as the end of Houston's four-game road trip before it returns home on Saturday prior to heading back on the road again for another four games away from the Toyota Center. Thursday will also be the team's fourth game in six days, and it could be without starting center Alperen Sengun who is currently listed as questionable with a strained calf. It may be overthinking it, but the Rockets could be best served to sit Sengun and maintain the psychological edge over a potential playoff opponent in Memphis by not having their best player on the hardwood tonight.

The Grizzlies haven't dropped consecutive games since the very start of the month and are coming off what's arguably their worst defeat of the 2024-25 campaign in a 37-point drubbing at the hands of the New York Knicks on Monday after prevailing in the six games prior. There's some obvious incentive here to avoid losing four-straight times to Houston, including six of the last seven encounters. Memphis has also won four in a row at home with the last three being successful covers on the spread.

The Rockets are one of the Association's better road teams at 17-6 and 15-8 ATS, and have knocked off some heavy hitters as of late like the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, but this game should be close on the scoreboard with fatigue ultimately doing Houston in. Betting the Rockets to cover a five-point spread when they're 2-1 both SU and ATS as road underdogs by at least that much also covers all bases, even though the Grizzlies should pull out the win in the end.

UNDER 238 Total Points (-110)

Houston has reached an OVER in four of its last five road games, but Memphis and its fifth-ranked offense (117.5 points per 100 possessions) has hit an UNDER in four of its last six at home.

The point total also being 238 may be a smidge too high for an OVER, and the number is likely what it is after the teams combined for exactly that much on Jan. 13. Even with three OVERS in their last four matchups, not one of them exceeded 238 points, so let's take an UNDER here.

Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies Player Prop

Jalen Green OVER 22.5 Points (-128)

Jalen Green tied his career high with 42 points versus Memphis earlier in the month by shooting 13-of-18 from the field, 5-of-6 from 3-point range, and a perfect 11-of-11 at the charity stripe. He hasn't dropped fewer than 22 points against them this season either.

While Green has only reached an OVER on 22.5 points in two of his last five appearances, considering his success against the Grizzlies and the possibility of Sengun resting, the 22-year-old shooting guard could be in store for a full box score on Thursday.
