A four-game losing streak has the Houston Rockets losing ground at the top of the Western Conference, and even as a 1.5-point betting favorite (-108) at Sportsbook, the Minnesota Timberwolves are very much a threat to extend Houston's misery even further on Thursday night.

Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Expert Picks
Minnesota Timberwolves ATS +1.5 (-112), ML (+106)
Oddsmakers projecting this game to be a tightly-contested affair means the finite details matter that much more. The Rockets will continue to be without starting point guard Fred VanVleet, who remains sidelined week-to-week with a right ankle sprain, and that should be more of a detriment to the visitors than the continued absence of forward Julius Randle for Minnesota who is out with a right adductor strain. The Timberwolves are also competing on the second night of a back to back after blowing out the Chicago Bulls by 19 points on Wednesday, but even that's not enough to think they're in too much trouble here.
Minnesota is 6-2 over its last eight outings, with the two defeats coming by exactly two points each. One loss did come at the hands of the league-worst Washington Wizards, though, and that's never ideal. Still, the Timberwolves have played some of their best basketball all season during this stretch, ranking fifth in both offense (121.9 points per 100 possessions) and defense (110.1 points allowed per 100 possessions) with each of the last five wins coming by at least eight points.
Houston, meanwhile, is holding onto the No. 3 seed in the West for dear life with just a half a game lead over the Denver Nuggets and a two-game gap between them and the new-look Los Angeles Lakers. Its also dropped each of its last three games away from the Toyota Center, albeit with two successful covers sprinkled in, and failed to score at least 100 points twice in a span of three days against the Brooklyn Nets' 25th-ranked defense.
If anything, the Rockets are playing vulnerable basketball while Minnesota is slowly but surely getting its act together, and being able to slot Naz Reid into the starting lineup is viable insurance as Randle misses time. Houston doesn't have a certifiable backup to replace the offense and leadership of VanVleet, so if the scoreboard is going to be as tight as it sounds, give the leg up to the home side that has more momentum anyway.
OVER 214 Total Points (-110)
These two teams have gone OVER the designated point total in five of their last six meetings, and while there were more bodies present, the first two matchups in 2024-25 have both easily surpassed the OVER, as well.
It's a fairly pedestrian number at 214 points, so the likelihood of yet another OVER rises even more so.
Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Player Prop
Naz Reid OVER 2.5 Made 3-Pointers (-115)
Reid has converted at least three shots from behind the arc in four of his last five appearances for Minnesota, and has gone 9-of-19 from deep in each of the last two games as a starter at a 47.3-percent clip.
Houston is the Association's best team defending the 3-point line during this recent skid, but Reid's output from the perimeter is high enough along with his efficiency to think he can breeze past the OVER here.
