Grant Nelson faces a tough challenge in tonight’s Elite Eight matchup against Duke, which allows just 62.3 PPG. Alabama’s offense is heavily reliant on three-point shooting—if that record 25 threes against BYU didn't make it clear enough. But that’s not Nelson’s strength, as he’s failed to reach double digits in four of his last five games.
Another thing to consider is Nelson's foul trouble, currently averaging 3.1 fouls per game, potentially limiting his minutes on the court. Duke’s slow pace and ability to force opponents to shoot from the perimeter will reduce Nelson's scoring chances, and I doubt he adjusts quickly enough to become a deep threat tonight.
Texas Tech’s noble defense is limiting opponents to just 10.2 assists per game. Clayton Jr. may be averaging 6.8 rebounds and assists combined this season, but he has stayed under this line in five of his last seven games. The senior has struggled as a playmaker of late too, recording two or fewer assists in four of his last six games. Clayton Jr. isn’t Florida’s primary rebounder, averaging just 3.7 rebounds per game this season and grabbing only four rebounds in his last two March Madness appearances.
