Boston College vs Nebraska Odds & Picks: Eagles Are Hot!

The Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-6) head to the Bronx to face the Boston College Eagles (8-4) in the Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium. Nebraska opened as a -3.5 point favorite and the line has dropped a full point to -2.5. The Over/Under total opened at 45.5 and has not moved an inch.

We went back over a decade and, after carefully looking, we can tell you that these teams have not met in over 10 years.

Boston College vs Nebraska: Pinstripe Bowl Pick

Two former NFL guys fighting at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to lift the Pinstripe Bowl Trophy. Matt Ruhle, in his second year at Nebraska, had an ugly three-year run with the Carolina Panthers where he posted an 11-27 record. Bill O'Brien, in his first year at Boston College, did a bunch better in the NFL, compiling a 52-48 record in seven seasons with the Houston Texans. How does that translate to the college ranks?

Ruhle has been a program builder in college, taking lousy teams and improving them dramatically. However, it took Matt three years at Temple and Baylor to really heat up. In his second year in Lincoln, the Cornhuskers were just able to post a 6-6 record, 3-6 in Big 12 play. They started out strong, winning five of their first six, but fell to 1-5 the last two months.

Bill O'Brien was also the former offensive coordinator for Nick Saban at Alabama and Double B is opening up the playbook for his QB Grayson James. We looked at his last game against Pittsburgh and it was a beauty. James hit on 20 of 28 (71.4%) for 253 yards with 2 TDs and no INTs. And we love the balance that O'Brien has brought to the Eagles offense, with 24 TDs through the air and 22 on the ground.

The other Arm, 'Husker QB Dylan Raiola is an interesting case and typical of the current state in college football. Raiola initially committed to Ohio State, then reopened his recruitment, and chose Georgia. He never made it to Athens, deciding to sign with Nebraska. Dylan says he is all in with the Cornhuskers, but there are rumors that he is taking a serious look at Oregon. Either way, it hasn't been a great run for him starting in the middle of October. Nebraska has lost five of its last six with Dylan under center, and his number during that stretch was kinda UGLY. Like only three TDs against SEVEN INTs.

However, there is nothing ugly about B.C.'s last month. The Eagles closed up the 2024 campaign winning three of the last four straight up and a FIVE & OH run against the spread. If 2.5 remains the consensus number, we would suggest buying the hook to +3.

Pick: Boston College +2.5
