Oregon Carries Home ATS Slump Into Game vs Cougars

The Oregon Ducks (8-1 SU, 3-6 ATS) are 0-6 ATS in their last six games at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks will try to snap that ATS home losing streak with a win and cover over the Washington State Cougars (5-4, 6-3) on Saturday night in Eugene.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Ducks opened as 13.5-point favorites in this Pac-12 showdown and have been bet up slightly to Oregon -14. The total has settled in at 56.5 points since Sportsbook at 56 points. Washington State is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 games against Oregon.

Washington State News & Notes

On the heels of a 3-0 SU and ATS run that included two outright upsets over the California Bears and Oregon State Beavers, Washington State fired head coach Nick Rolovich and four assistant coaches for their refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccination.

The Cougars have continued to play well since then, losing to the BYU Cougars 21-19 but covering the spread as 3.5-point underdogs and then beating the Arizona State Sun Devils 34-21 as 16.5-point underdogs in their last game on October 30.

Washington State’s defense forced five turnovers in that upset, recovering three fumbles and recording two interceptions. Jayden de Laura went 17-for-27 with 234 passing yards and two touchdowns while Deon McIntosh and Max Borghi combined for 135 rushing yards on 28 carries. The Cougars are 5-1 ATS with three outright upsets as an underdog this season.

Oregon News & Notes

The Ducks passed their latest road test last Saturday with a 26-16 win over the Washington Huskies as 7-point favorites. Travis Dye continues to thrive as the team’s new featured back with CJ Verdell out for the season, rushing for 211 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. Quarterback Anthony Brown also added 63 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Oregon is now 2-1 ATS over its last three games after going just 1-5 ATS through its first six games. While both the AP Top 25 poll and the Coaches Poll have Cincinnati and Oklahoma ranked ahead of Oregon, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee debuted the Ducks at No. 4 in their first rankings. As such, it would appear that Oregon controls its own destiny in its quest for a playoff spot.

How Washington State Will Cover

Washington State has allowed 21.2 points per game over its current 6-0 ATS run. The Cougars aren’t well equipped to get into a shootout with the Ducks, but if they can contain the run and keep Oregon out of the end zone more often than not, keeping the game within the two-touchdown spread is a very reasonable outcome.

How Oregon Will Cover

Oregon has averaged 40 points per game in its last two games against the Cougars, including a 43-29 victory on the road last season. If the Ducks bring their A-game on offense, this year’s Washington State offense isn’t likely to keep up.
