After their most successful season in a generation, Detroit will aim to progress one game further this season. Remember, they led 21-7 midway through the second quarter of the NFC Championship game, only to fall to the San Francisco 49ers.
Thankfully, General Manager Brad Holmes has done an outstanding job of reinforcing the trenches and rebuilding the secondary. Holmes added former Tampa Bay Buccaneers standout Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson in free agency, and then drafted Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft. He's completely transformed the Lions cornerback room in one off-season. He also picked up former first-round pick Marcus Davenport and D.J. Reader to shore up the defensive line.
This is the Lions most talented squad of the last two decades, and they have a real shot to upset the status quo in the NFC. Their +550 odds aren't the greatest, but there is profit to be had betting on this ascending squad.

Detroit's win total odds reflect the fact they were one of the top teams in the NFC last season. The Lions won twelve games for the first time since 1991 last year, and they look to be well on their way to another double-digit winning campaign.
Keep in mind, the Lions went a perfect 5-0 ATS after a loss last season, proving their ability to bounce back. They were also a phenomenal 11-3 ATS in non-division games. Which bodes well for their brand new first place schedule.
The Lions are favored in at least 13 of their upcoming matchups this year on paper, and Detroit has just the 21st rated strength of schedule. I like the idea of betting on Campbell's talented squad to rack up at least 11 wins this season.

Interestingly, 1991 was also the last time the Lions made the NFC Championship game. They followed that season up by going 5-11 the next year. Jared Goff and company aim to avoid that fate and make the postseason in back-to-back years for the first time this century.
With their playoff odds at -265, the Lions are expected to be postseason contenders once again. I can't see seven other NFC teams making the playoffs over Detroit in 2024. However, there's little value at these odds. Stay away for now.

I believe Goff is a value play to win NFL MVP. He plays in a quarterback friendly offense, with a ton of weapons, and the potential to put up big numbers. The return of coordinator Ben Johnson and continuation only helps Goff's cause.
He also gets the advantage of playing 14 of the Lions first 15 games indoors this upcoming season. For context, Goff has played 17 games indoors at Ford Field in the last two years and racked up over 4,700 passing and 43 passing touchdowns in those games. Importantly for bettors, he's also by far the most profitable quarterback against the spread over the past seven seasons. Hop on the Goff for MVP train while you still can.
