The New York Jets opened up as a 7-point favorite over the New England Patriots in a Week 8 contest with the Over/Under total in this game set at 41.5. After everyone watched the Jets get rocked by the Steelers, we were kinda surprised that the line did not move at all. The Over/Under total also held steady at 41.5.
We do have some history for this AFC East matchup and you only have to roll the clock back a few weeks to September 19. The Jets (-6.5) hosted the Patriots on a Thursday night, and slammed the door shut on New England, posting a 24-3 win. The total was listed at 39.5 and went WAY low.
Looking ahead, the Jets will host the Houston Texans on Thursday night, while Patriots fly down to Nashville to fight the Tennessee Titans.

So Davante Adams was supposed to be the penicillin that would get the Jets healthy immediately. Well, apparently, the dose wasn't strong enough last week.
Aaron Rodgers tried his best, targeting Adams nine times, but he only caught three balls for a total of 30 yards. That was after they had like just a few days to get back on the same page. With another week of practice under their respective shoulder pads, expect those numbers to DOUBLE in each category. Why? They'll feel even more comfortable with each other and more importantly, they'll be playing the Patriots, not the Steelers. Pittsburgh defense has allowed the FEWEST points this season (101 after seven games) and is ferocious, while New England has been rocked for 175 points, which is No. 25 on the NFL board, and presents as SOFT! More on soft later.
Told you these teams met back in September and here are some numbers that should help with your handicap. The New Yorkers got a beautiful game from Rodgers as he completed 27 of 35 for 281 yards, with 2 TDs and no INTs. The ground game was solid with Breece Hall rushing for 54 yards and Braelon Allen adding 55 yards.
On the other side of the field, the Pats started Jacoby Brissett, who was 12 of 18 for only 98 yards, and wound up with the rookie, their first-round draft pick, Drake Maye, finishing up at 4 of 8 for just 22 yards. Maye started the next game against the Texans and was 20 of 33 for 243 yards with 3 TDs and 2 INTs. Last week in London, Drake hit on 26 of 37 for 276 yards with 2 TDs and no INTs.
But the glaring problem and the one that's gonna be an issue against the Jets is the running game. Or should we say WHAT RUNNING GAME! Maye was the lead dog on the ground against the Jaguars, scampering for 18 yards. Yea, lemme yell, EIGHTEEN YARDS! The entire team managed a meager 38 yards. OUCH.
So my question is, why is an ugly 2-5 team that just got shellacked by the Steelers now going on the road as a 7-point favorite? The answer is two fold. Rodgers has another week to connect and practice with his bestie Adams, and the Jets should be able to plug Haason Reddick into the defense, a YUGE jolt. Why? If you're not familiar, Reddick comes over after two seasons in Philly, where he was an absolute wrecking ball.
Miley Cyrus aside, Haason had 86 tackles and 27 sacks in two years and was named to the Pro Bowl each year. Not sure how many snaps he is gonna get but it'll help. And when your coach, Jerod Mayo, calls the entire team soft, you think they're gonna go out and run through a wall for him? The actual quote from Mayo said, "Look, we are a soft football team across the board." After hearing/reading that, you think his guys are about to turn it around? Nah. Nope. Not happening. My wallet is open for the green team from New York.
