NFL Playoff Betting Handles: Wild Card Round

The NFL postseason is on the horizon, so BetMGM has provided us the top NFL playoff betting handles for the Wild Card round beginning Jan. 11.

There are six games on the slate this weekend. Sunday's Packers vs Eagles contest is the most bet-on, per BetMGM. In that contest, bettors love the Eagles to cover the spread, so much so that Philly has moved from 3.5-point favorites to now 5-point favorites since odds opened.

Below, I'll highlight where the betting action is for the first round of NFL playoffs and what we can learn from the NFL playoff betting handles:

Public Hates Texans, Packers, and Rams

Can you blame 'em? Houston has been trending downward for weeks and now commands just 8% of the money in its wild-card showdown vs LAC. The Texans lost two straight before a meaningless win last week vs the Titans. C.J. Stroud has been very shaky, and the team is thin at wideout after losing Stefon Diggs earlier this year and Tank Dell in Week 16 vs BAL. I love the Chargers at -3.0, so I understand why the public is so sweet on Jim Harbaugh's squad.

Green Bay faces a similar dilemma. 84% of the money is on the Eagles to cover, which moved the spread from 3.5 to 5 points in Philly's favor. The Packers lost two straight, including an embarrassing contest to Chicago last week, plus Jordan Love left the Bears loss with an elbow injury. If his status is still in doubt by Sunday, watch even more cash pour in on Philly.

Lastly, I've already wagered on the Minny ML (-125), so I suppose it's comforting to see the public backing me up. The SNF loss to Detroit in Week 18 was ugly, but it takes nothing away from an excellent Vikings defense and the team's offensive weapons. Sam Darnold played terribly against the Lions, so he'll need a bounceback. Either way, I'm confident in the price and outcome, even with Minnesota on the road vs Los Angeles.
