Predators vs Canucks Preview - January 3

Predators vs Canucks Odds & Picks: Total Goes OVER 5.5 Goals

Nashville Predators, losers of three straight, face the Vancouver Canucks, who played last night in Seattle tonight at Rogers Arena. With Nashville bleeding goals in those losses (5.00 GA per game) and Vancouver allowing 4.33 goals in the second leg of a back-to-back this year, I'm taking OVER 5.5 goals at -120 from BET99.

Make sure to check out Odds Shark's BET99 same-game parlay, we combined the Canucks moneyline, Nashville going UNDER 2.5 goals, and JT Miller hitting his points prop for +280 odds.

Predators vs Canucks Picks

OVER 5.5 Goals (-120) at BET99

With three straight losses, "we suck again" is the resounding sentiment within the Predators fanbase (I assume). This time defense and goaltending have let Nashville down with 15 goals allowed in their last three games thanks to a terrible team-wide 0.844 save percentage. The typically strong Juuse Saros has been downright awful in his last four starts with a 0.835 save percentage and 4.17 goals against average. It might be a good idea to take the UNDER on his saves prop tonight (if he officially gets the start).

Bad goaltending is always a great ingredient for the OVER even with Nashville's poor record against the OVER on the road (6-14). That 30% hit rate is due to some truly horrific shooting percentages to start the season, now that Nashville shooters are trending back toward the mean and with that aforementioned bad goaltending, the Preds have seen the total go OVER more frequently hitting it in three of their last four road games.

For Vancouver, who played a full 60 minutes plus overtime and a shootout in Seattle last night, a lack of rest has been great for total bettors with the OVER hitting in two of its three back-to-backs averaging seven goals. Step back from the "rest" factor for the Canucks and you'll see that the OVER has hit four times in their last five games thanks to a combination of healthy scoring (3.4 goals per game) and poor team defense (4.4 goals against).

All roads point to six or more goals tonight so I'll gladly take those -120 odds on the OVER from BET99.

Predators vs Canucks Same Game Parlay

  • Canucks ML
  • Predators UNDER 2.5 Goals
  • JT Miller O0.5 Points
  • Odds: +280

Canucks ML: We took the Canucks on the moneyline despite a poor 7-7-6 home record, the Canucks return to Rogers Arena with momentum thanks to last night's gritty win while missing captain Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, and losing Thatcher Demko midway through the second period. Nashville is weak on the road with a terrible 3-13-4 record so that momentum should carry them through to back-to-back wins.

Predators UNDER 2.5 Goals: We don't feel confident in the Preds scoring more than two goals despite doing so twice in their last three games. The Preds needed 98 shots or 32.7 shots per game to score those seven goals. The Canucks don't allow that many shots, specifically on the second leg of a back-to-back where they've allowed an average of 22 shots this season. The poor Preds shooters won't get enough looks to score 3+ goals.

JT Miller O0.5 Points: Since returning from a self-imposed hiatus, Miller has scored at least one point in seven of his last ten games and in four straight games. With Quinn and Petey out he's got to carry the offensive load for the Canucks so expect at least one point from Miller tonight.

Predators vs Canucks Player Prop

Jonathan Marchessault O0.5 Points (-160) at BET99

Outlier points out that Nashville's Jonathan Marchessault has scored a point in nine of his last ten games (averaging 1.4 points). While our same-game parlay features Nashville hitting UNDER 2.5 goals, we still expect them to score at least once, and I believe Marchy factors in that scoring.

Marachessault points - January 3

Marchessault's 27 points in 38 games has been one of the few bright spots for Nashville this season. With nine goals and 14 points over his last 10 games, the Preds will lean on the veteran to generate offense tonight. He's also been something of a Canuck killer in his career with 25 points in 23 career games, that 1.09 points per game is his highest scoring rate against any opponent over his career.

Predators vs Canucks Betting Trends

  • The total has gone OVER in four of Nashville's last six games and 10 of its last 13 in Vancouver. OVER 5.5 goals is -120 at BET99.
  • Vancouver is 7-3SU in its last 10 games against Nashville, Vancouver is +125 home dogs on the BET99 moneyline.
  • Per Outlier, Brady Skeji has averaged 2.4 shots on goal in his last five road games, OVER 2.5 shots for the Preds defenseman is +145 at BET99.
