The Detroit Tigers shocked the world last year, going on a late-season run all the way to the playoffs.
Can they do it again in 2025? The Tigers made some tweaks around the edges but largely return the same young team this season. In an open AL Central, is it enough to return to October?
In this 2025 Detroit Tigers season preview, I'll break down their latest odds, key projections, and the best bets for their upcoming campaign.
2025 Tigers Odds: Division, AL Pennant, World Series
World Series Odds | AL Pennant Odds | AL Central Odds |
---|---|---|
+3000 | +1000 | +230 |
Odds as of March 21st from Sportsbook
I'm not sure I love the Tigers at these World Series and AL Champ odds. They currently sit 10th in the World Series odds, but I'd much rather take a shot on teams behind them like Arizona, San Diego, and Milwaukee (at far better value).
The Tigers still have a bunch of flaws, with no real solid options at third base or rotation depth. If there's any futures market I'm buying Detroit, it's in the AL Central. I'm not sure any one of Minnesota, Detroit, Kansas City or Cleveland is clearly better than the rest. So, the Tigers can certainly take advantage of that wide-open race.
2025 Tigers Win Total Odds
2025 Win Total | OVER | UNDER |
---|---|---|
83.5 | -112 | -108 |
Odds as of March 21st from Sportsbook
This is a really solid line for Detroit and right about where I see the squad finishing 2025. The Tigers won 86 games last year with an expected record of 85-77. But, the rest of the AL Central probably got a bit better and PECOTA projects the Tigers to finish with just 78.5 wins.
This is probably a no-bet for me, but if anything I'm taking the UNDER. A lot more can go wrong for this team than right.
2025 Tigers Playoff Odds
To Make Playoffs | To Miss Playoffs |
---|---|
+104 | -128 |
Odds as of March 21st
This is another market where I'm probably staying away or fading the Tigers. The Tigers barely got in the playoffs last year, nudging out the Mariners by a single game. I think they're right in the thick of things with the Royals, Mariners, Twins, Red Sox, Rays, Rangers, and Blue Jays for the final one or two 2025 Wild Card spots. With all those teams involved, it's hard to justify a +104 playoff bet on Detroit.
2025 Tigers: AL MVP Odds, AL Cy Young Odds
MVP Candidate | Odds |
---|---|
Riley Greene | +7000 |
Tarik Skubal | +10000 |
Odds as of March 21st from Sportsbook
Cy Young Candidate | Odds |
---|---|
Tarik Skubal | +350 |
Jack Flaherty | +5500 |
Odds as of March 21st from Sportsbook
I think it'll be hard for Greene or Skubal to really make the run at an AL MVP race that's got Bobby Witt, Aaron Judge, and Gunnar Henderson involved. But, Skubal is rightfully the favorite to run back his amazing 2025 and snatch another Cy.
This is a guy who won the pitching triple crown last year with 18 wins, a 2.39 ERA, and 228 strikeouts. He also led the AL in FIP, ERA+, and pitching WAR (6.4). Since coming back from an injury in 2023, Skubal has been a new guy. In his last 46 starts, the Tigers lefty has a 2.51 ERA, 2.35 FIP, and 330 strikeouts in 272.1 innings. If he repeats anything like that again for 30 starts this year, the Cy is his.
