Aaron Rodgers' Jets are underdogs in the Jets vs Dolphins odds

Jets vs Dolphins Odds & Picks Week 14: Expect A Low-Scoring Affair

Week 14 of the NFL season features a battle between two AFC East teams that have had disappointing seasons. The New York Jets (3-9) visit the Miami Dolphins (5-7) as 6.5-point underdogs at FanDuel, with playoffs likely out of reach for both teams. The Dolphins are favored by 6 points in this game as they’re expected to bounce back after a loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving.

Who will emerge with a win in this AFC East matchup? Let’s dive into the matchup and find out.

Jets vs Dolphins Picks - Week 14

First Half UNDER 23.5 Points (-145) at bet365

The Jets had another clunker of an offensive performance on Sunday despite the somewhat respectable final score. New York benefitted from a laugher of a first-half showing from Seattle’s special teams, scoring a touchdown on a short field off a muffed punt and another touchdown on a kickoff return. However, they were held to 4.2 yards per play and didn’t score a single point after halftime.

Aaron Rodgers’ struggles are well-documented at this point as the 41-year-old quarterback, fresh off an Achilles tear, is playing like just that. It hasn’t helped that the Jets haven’t been able to protect him in the pocket - they rank 25th in pass-block win rate and lost left tackle Tyron Smith to IR.

The Dolphins’ defense has taken a step back after Vic Fangio left for the Eagles, but the Jets lack explosiveness and can’t exploit their deficiencies. Miami’s offense also lacks the explosiveness we’re used to seeing from it. Tua Tagovailoa has a 6.0-yard aDOT, the lowest of 42 qualified quarterbacks, and 2.19 seconds time-to-throw, the second-highest. The Dolphins have prioritized quick, short throws to protect Tua’s health.

The Jets score just 10 points per game in the first half (20th), and the Dolphins score just 8.8 (25th), so I don’t expect either offense to hang a considerable number early on Sunday. With wind also playing a potential factor, take the first half UNDER in this AFC East matchup.

Will Sauce Gardner Play on Sunday?

The status of former All-Pro Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner is critical to monitor in this game on Sunday. Gardner left the game on Sunday with a hamstring injury, and his status is unclear for this matchup. His availability would be crucial against a Dolphins’ team that features wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
