Patriots vs 49ers Odds & Picks Week 4: 49ers to start fast

The San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots battle in Week 4, while looking to get bad tastes out of their mouth from last week.

The 49ers are 10-point favorites and fresh off a devastating loss to the Rams in a game they very much should have won. Meanwhile, the Patriots showed no life in their Thursday loss to the Jets. With both offenses struggling at times this season, the total has been set at 39.5.

Dive into the Patriots vs 49ers odds and my best bets for this Week 4 contest below.

Patriots vs 49ers Picks Week 4

49ers -4 1H (-145)

I like the 49ers to start fast in a bounce back spot after a (very) tough loss vs. the Rams. The biggest mismatch of the day will be on the sidelines with Kyle Shanahan calling plays vs. Patriots DC DeMarcus Covington.

Reports out of San Francisco are suggesting Kyle Shanahan isn't happy with his defensive coordinator or his special teams coach after the Week 3 debacle. Look for an inspired effort from those units as those coaches jobs are very much on the line.

The 49ers often get off to fast starts and despite being 1-3 SU in their last four games, they've 3-1 covering this number.

New England's defense seems to be hanging on by a thread with Christian Barmore continuing to miss time with a blood clot several other key contributors like Ja'Whaun Bentley going down.

Since the Patriots aren't built for a backdoor cover, I lean toward San Francisco covering the point spread in this one but ultimately have more conviction in them getting off to a fast start.

Patriots vs 49ers Prop Pick

D. Campbell Under 4.5 tackles (-110)

San Francisco 49ers LB De'Vondre Campbell is averaging less than 3 tackles a game this season and it seems like some sportsbooks are unaware that he's been losing playing time because this prop is lined as if he'll be playing a full compliment of snaps.

Patriots vs 49ers News

Patriots starting guard Sidy Sow who has been out with an ankle injury, practiced Monday and said Wednesday before practice that seeing how he Thursday would be the next step. Patriots WR and former 49er Kendrick Bourne has yet to play a snap this season, but he's reportedly running at full speed and looks clean running routes.

The 49ers placed DT Javon Hargrave on IR this week with a triceps injury and he'll miss the entire season. The 49ers were already struggling vs. the run so it will be interesting to see how they shuffle their defensive line.
