Rams vs Jets Picks - Week 16
OVER 46.5 Points (-110) at FanDuel
According to the New York Times’ playoff simulator, the Rams have a 72% chance to make the postseason after a win last week and the Seahawks’ loss to the Packers. After a 1-4 start to the season, the Rams have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games to reach the verge of a playoff berth. Los Angeles’ surge back up the standings has been primarily fueled by one of the hottest offenses in the NFL.
Since Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp returned to the lineup in Week 8, the Rams have a top-10 offense by EPA/play and success rate. Matthew Stafford’s season has been defined by inconsistency, as he ranks just 18th out of 35 qualified quarterbacks in EPA+CPOE. However, he had thrown for multiple touchdowns in four straight games before last week’s low-scoring slugfest on Thursday Night Football.
Stafford will have a substantial opportunity to bounce back after last week’s disappointing outing as the once-proud Jets defense ranks just 30th in EPA/play allowed since Week 9. Cornerbacks D.J. Reed, Michael Carter II, and Brandin Echols are all on the injury report, so the Jets could be shorthanded at cornerback against Nacua and Kupp.
The Jets should be able to hold their own from a scoring standpoint. Aaron Rodgers has quietly been playing solid football lately, ranking 10th out of 35 qualified quarterbacks in adjusted EPA/play over the last month. Davante Adams has 18 catches for 307 yards and three touchdowns over his last two games, and he’ll have a strong opportunity for another excellent outing.
The Rams’ offense has kept the team alive while its defense has struggled - they rank outside the top 20 in pass defense DVOA, EPA, and success rate. Los Angeles could also be without top cornerback Decobie Durant for the second straight week, hurting its ability to contain Adams and Garrett Wilson.
Both offenses have elite wide receiver talent in this game, and neither defense has been playing at a high enough level to have confidence here. The OVER looks like the best play on the board in a game with sneaky shootout potential.
Rams vs Jets Prop Pick Week 16
Cooper Kupp Receiving Yards Not Yet Available
Last week, Cooper Kupp was held without a catch for just the third time in his career. Adverse weather conditions in San Francisco affected the game between the Rams and the 49ers, but that shouldn’t be an issue this week.
Kupp has an outstanding opportunity to bounce back against Jets slot corner Isaiah Oliver, who has allowed a 76.7% catch rate and 113.1 passer rating in coverage this season. Look for Kupp to make his presence felt in what should be a high-scoring game.
