Super Bowl 59 Big Bets & Bad Beats

Super Bowl 59 Big Bets & Bad Beats: Heartbreak for Jahan Dotson Bettors

Like any Super Bowl, football fans around the world joined together to wager in historic numbers on the big game. Thus, a ton of Super Bowl 59 big bets and bad beats followed, from the seasoned bettor down to the casual folks playing Taylor Swift props.

Super Bowl 59 will live on in infamy in the minds of Eagles and Chiefs fans alike. Philadelphia halted the onslaught of Kansas City, destroying their chance at football immortality, slaying the dragon in its lair. Quite literally - Philadelphia forced Mahomes to hold the football for an average of 2.99 seconds per dropback last night and disrupted every offensive concept the Chiefs had. Regardless, many bettors just missed out on major paydays. Others flourished with large wagers hitting on the underdogs.

Let's take a look at the most memorable Super Bowl 59 big bets and bad beats.

Super Bowl 59 Big Bets

Football fans across the globe wagered on the Super Bowl like never before, with FanDuel Sportsbook taking over 16.6 million bets - a nearly 19% year-over-year increase. According to FanDuel, nearly three million active users placed a wager on the game.

$750,000 on Chiefs ML -120, $750,000 on Chiefs -1.5 -105

Backing Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs is never a bad idea. So, I can't fault this bettor for placing a cool $1.5M on Kansas City just before kickoff. Things didn't go his way, but that's okay, there's always another $1.5M to throw on the favorite at Super Bowl 60 right? Right??

$500,000 on Eagles ML +100, $300,000 on UNDER 48.5 -105, $200,000 on a teaser of Eagles +7.5 and UNDER 54.5 (-130)

According to friend of the network, Ben Fawkes, one bettor wagered a million dollars on Super Bowl 59, and was forced to sweat out any profits late into the fourth quarter.

Ouch. Heading into the late third quarter, the UNDER 48.5 total points looked like a surefire hit. Kansas City couldn't move the football whatsoever, and Philadelphia had no reason to up the ante. Unfortunately, Mahomes woke up, leading to both his straight UNDER wager, and his UNDER 54.5 teaser to fall apart. But, Eagles moneyline saved the day, and this whale didn't lose a penny.

$71,000 on Tails +100

Now, this is a heck of a bet. $71,000 American dollars on a 50/50 coin flip ain't for the faint of heart folks. Luckily, this bettor had the last laugh, as tails hit, and he pocketed a nice $71,000 profit.

$70,000 on a fourth-down conversion -700

No fourth-down conversion, in a Super Bowl, is almost unheard of.

Both teams finished 0-1 on fourth down, ending this bettors dream of cashing out a cool $10,000. While it may have looked like free money, the books cooked this guy. An offensive pass interference call on AJ Brown negated what would have been a huge early play, and Eagles' fourth-down conversion.

$800,000 on Eagles Moneyline +110, $300,000 on Eagles 1H +0.5 -182

This Eagles bettor woke up with a smile plastered to his face. Philadelphia's strong start, and beatdown of the Chiefs led to him pulling in over a million dollars in profit. Fly Eagles Fly.

Super Bowl 59 Bad Beats

And now, to recap the worst betting losses of Super Bowl 59.

Jahan Dotson First touchdown Scorer +8500

Last night a ton of bettors missed on huge returns, none worse than those who played Jahan Dotson as the first touchdown scorer.

The former Washington Commanders first round picked appeared to haul in the game's first score, as he fought off the defender to get into the endzone.

Upon further review, Dotson was ruled down at the one yard line. Predictably, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles big hogs up front executed the tush push on the very next play. Cashing Hurts first touchdown, anytime touchdown, and shortest touchdown UNDER 1.5 yards tickets, and leaving Dotson bettors in despair.

Any Patrick Mahomes Passing Prop Under

Listen, if you were betting the UNDER on any of Patrick Mahomes' player props, you likely saw the gamescript of Super Bowl 59 going very differently. Maybe the Chiefs would be up big heading into the fourth, and wouldn't need their star quarterback to do anything special. Or, perhaps the Chiefs' rushing game would take control.

Well, the script writers got that one wrong. Kansas City couldn't get anything going on offense, and Mahomes finished the first half with just 33 passing yards and two interceptions.  Unfortunately for some bettors, Mahomes went to work in the final 20 minutes of the game. First, he found Xavier Worthy for a 24-yard score late in the third quarter, before leading another touchdown drive with five minutes to go. Finally, Mahomes threw a sublime 50-yard touchdown to Worthy with under two minutes left on the clock to cash his overs.

He finished the contest with 257 passing yards to cash his OVER 250.5 prop at -110 odds. He also hit his passing touchdowns OVER 1.5 at -154, with three touchdown passes. Mahomes' longest pass over 33.5 also smacked at -114 odds. Moreover, despite trailing for most of the game, Mahomes to have the most passing yards cashed with his late score at -240 odds, sending Hurts +180 bettors into a tailspin. Bettors who faded Mahomes and the Chiefs finished with mixed results.

Under 48.5 -110

After the first half started with back-to-back punts, and only 10 points were scored through the first 20 minutes of the game, anyone who bet the under also had a bad night. Each of Mahomes' interceptions were backbreaking for those on the UNDER. The Kansas City quarterback basically gifted the Eagles 14 points, throwing a pick-six to Cooper DeJean before serving up a touchdown on a platter by tossing an interception from his own endzone.

38 second-half points killed the mood for those who bet on the UNDER 48.5 total points.
