Phoenix Suns 2024-25 Season Preview, Betting Odds

Getting swept out of the opening round of the playoffs wasn't the lasting impression the Phoenix Suns and their superstar Big Three wanted to leave in their first season together. Yet it's the lingering image the basketball world has of their overhyped team and one they'll need to erase quickly.

In this 2024-25 season preview, we'll analyze all betting odds for the Suns as they look to reestablish dominance and reach their ceiling as championship contenders.

Bringing Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal aboard to align with Devin Booker was designed to secure the organization its first-ever title, and while it was a lofty goal to project such a feat in year one, bowing out as early and convincingly as the Suns did was a massive kick to the gut that brought swift change this offseason.

Hiring two-time Coach of the Year and former champion Mike Budenholzer was designed to provide stability on the sidelines, while the likes of Tyus Jones, Monte Morris, and Mason Plumlee can hopefully invigorate a second unit which ranked dead last in scoring. Phoenix will still ride and die with how the Durant-Beal-Booker triad delivers, but the excuses are diminishing with the help they'll now have.

Best Bet: Phoenix Suns To Win Pacific Division, +220

Going from fodder to the Minnesota Timberwolves to all of a sudden escaping the Western Conference is a gargantuan gap that the Suns will somehow need to sky over like Homer Simpson across the Springfield Gorge - and we all know how that turned out.

If everything goes according to plan, and that's stretching the word "if," then Phoenix has the talent to make a substantial push to the Finals and shock the system. We're betting with logic and our wallets, though, and when money is involved, you need to be smart and see the forest for the trees.

While the Suns should see some improvement with another full year of this core along with the tutelage of Budenholzer, getting out of the West is just too much, too soon. Emerging with a Pacific Division title is far more realistic, and oddsmakers see the vision too. They're the narrow favorites in what's the tightest division in the Association, as all five inhabitants won at least 46 games last season. But, it's still a more plausible outcome than advancing through three rounds.

Phoenix Suns' 2024-25 NBA Win Total, Make Playoffs Odds

Odds as of September 5, 2024

Since September 5, 2020, no team has notched a better winning percentage than the Suns at .657 with an overall record of 209-109. The team won 49 games last season despite not having Durant for seven games, Booker for 12, and Beal for 29.

Best Bet: OVER 47.5 Wins, -122

When factoring in the injuries which plagued Phoenix's stars, and how they barely played together as a trio because of it, there's reason to believe oddsmakers are selling this team short on what it can accomplish ... during the regular season.

A lot went wrong and yet the Suns still managed to muster up 49 victories, so matching that total would still reach the OVER here.

Phoenix managed to advance to the knockout stage of the inaugural in-season tournament with a 3-1 record in West Group A. The Los Angeles Lakers finished in first place, but the Suns snagged a spot by having one of the better records for second-place teams and sneaking through via point differential. They'll have to fend off the Lakers once again in West Group B this year, while both teams have worse odds than the favored Oklahoma City Thunder.

Best Bet: Mike Budenholzer For NBA Coach Of The Year, +2500

Only Don Nelson, Gregg Popovich, and Pat Riley have won Coach of the Year on three occasions, so another trophy on Budenholzer's mantle would put him in that prestigious group.

Mark Daigneault just won with the Thunder after guiding the team to an improvement of +.207 in the standings, but in order for Phoenix to achieve similar growth, it would need to win over 65 games and that's simply not happening. Voters tend to gravitate towards sharp and noticeable jumps in the win-loss column, although when former Suns coach Monty Williams won in 2022, it was only by .072.

Expectations are smack dab in the middle for Phoenix, because while we all can see them being a viable threat for Larry O'Brien, it's not out of the realm of possibility to see this experiment bottom out quickly. However, Budenholzer is too good a coach and this core is far too strong when healthy to see that come to fruition, so if the Suns can keep themselves in the thick of it and maybe improve by five-plus wins, then Coach of the Year is absolutely on the table here.
